Today is the illustrious Bob Dylan's 70th birthday, so of course I'm doing a wee blog post on some Dylan covers. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that my exam is mere days away, and I have revisioned myself out. [You guys know what I'm talking about, right? When you know you should be working hard but you have absolutely no ability whatsoever to concentrate on it. It's a lovely state of apathy.]
Most uni students have by now finished, but for us poor souls still with noses to the grindstone, it's just one last push then done! .......and then resits in June. Such fun.
Nanci Griffith - Boots of Spanish Leather
Metric - Don't Think Twice, It's Alright
Jason Mraz - A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall
The Los Angeles Gospel Choir - I Shall Be Released
The Tallest Man On Earth - I Want You
The Editors - It Ain't Me Babe
Antony and The Johnsons - Knockin' On Heaven's Door
Hope the exams are going well, and you're not too distracted by Bob!! x

ReplyDeleteYay Bob!!
ReplyDeleteApathy on the rise... no one seems to care.
ReplyDeleteIf Dylan covers are your thing, My Chemical Romance's Desolation Row cover's certainly worth a listen!
ReplyDeleteIf it's not a Dylan song now i'll feel such a tart...
John Martyn's cover of Don't Think Twice it's Alright is better me thinks

Hmmm it's a very different version. Part of the reason that I love Bob Dylan's songs is that they seem to transcend genres, you find such a variety of artists reinterpreting them to amazingly different results.
ReplyDeleteGod, how much of a dick do I sound? Transcends? I stand by it though - just don't let me catch Miley Cyrus 'reinterpreting' Bob.
I love Bob Dylan, very cool picture of him too! You should follow my blog about music and the media, I just started it but I definitely think it's relevant to what you're doing :)

The 13th Floor Elevator's cover of "It's All Over Now Baby Blue" is a pretty spectacular, slightly psychedelic version. Supposedly, Dylan liked their version better than his own.
ReplyDeleteso lovely photos
ReplyDeleteBob Dylan is the best song writer
ReplyDeletecongrats on making blogs of note. wonderful post on Dylan. my husband and I did a musical report on "Boots of Spanish Leather" for our Music class in high school, 40 years ago. The teacher didn't like it but we did a great job. We are reminiscing. Thank you for the lovely version.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog, great tunes - ooh Boots of Spanish Leather - one of my favourite Dylan songs, throw in a little 'Not Dark Yet' and I'm happy x
ReplyDeleteI certainly love my bobby D. I think my personal favorite Dylan song would have to be Mr. Tambourine man. First time I've been to your blog, it's awesome!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all your upcoming exams and things, I have A levels right now and am working my life away to get A's so I can go to a top ten university, its horrid!! I love this post, my boyfriend introduced me to Bob Dylan and I find him really inspirational now. Everytime I listen to his music I find some new depth to it.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for posting Nancy Griffith's cover of "Boots of Spanish Leather." I probably haven't heard it in ten years. Awesome.
ReplyDeletehaha....I so like that line of urs "You guys know what I'm talking about, right? When you know you should be working hard but you have absolutely no ability whatsoever to concentrate on it. It's a lovely state of apathy." ....sooo true :):)
ReplyDeleteWow! Dylan - what a legend. 70 years old. Did you guys know that he was recently in Israel too. That was quite a show. Tens of thousands of screaming fans just waiting to hear from the legend. I'm a gamer and I love 888ladies so it's getting kind of cool! Let's break it on down to the beat of Hey Mr Tamborine Man!
ReplyDeleteNice post, nice covers.
