I'm an absolute mug

Buongiorno! How's everyone doing? I've spent the past two days firmly ensconced in front of my computer, revising [I didn't actually leave the flat once yesterday] so I don't have any lovely photos of Edinburgh in Autumn, which looks exactly the same as Summer, but with a little more sun. Instead, I've been baking as revision breaks - so voila! Amaretti-style biscuits. They break your teeth and lift your spirits.

Why might my spirits be needing lifting? Well aside from the whole hermit-thing, I had an absolute disaster on Tuesday. I repeat, disaster. I drove down to the hospital for a lecture, and was persuaded by my passengers to park in a nearby council estate.

For the record, parking makes me very anxious. I hate it. It's my least favourite part of driving.
So here I was, leaving my poor little Freddie [yes I named my car] all on his lonesome in a scary estate. Cut to three hours later, and Freddie is nowhere to be found. Cue a massive panic, as I immediately jump to the [quite reasonable] conclusion that my car has been stolen.

After spending 40 minutes looking through CCTV footage with the security guard and my very patient friend, I spot a nearly identical car park in the corner of the screen.
  "Umm...what's that?"
So, turns out Freddie was actually parked in a completely different car park, and I am an idiot.

Has this happened to anyone else?

UPDATE: Turns out it quite possibly runs in the family - my father has admitted to driving my grandma's car into the local city when he was younger, then forgetting and getting the train home. Classic.

  1. I don't drive so I haven't had the car experience, but I would absolutely love to crack my teeth on those bicuits :D

  2. I hate parking and leaving my car anywhere, I always somehow manage to forget where it is and have a mild panic attack trying to find it again! And I'm also convinced that anyone and everyone is out to get me and my car, so I'm always pleasantly surprised to come back to my car without any damages!

  3. Hahaha, poor you! Better to make a fool out of yourself than to actually have your car stolen.

  5. HAHA, that sounds like an absolute nightmare. Totally with you on the parking hatred though, it makes my day if I need to park somewhere and I can just drive straight though two spaces, bliss! Those biscuits look delish, wish I could have couple to munch on in the library (yes, I'm a fresher in the library, such a keen bean) xx

  6. All the time. I've been known to walk right past my car in my flustered state of panic (and phone, and keys and sunglasses etc….)

I actually have to take notes when I park now in case I forget where I left it. Yup, I have the memory of a goldfish :/

  7. I do this on a regular basis - almost weekly. My little town as a Sainsburys at its centre. You can park on 2 paralell High Streets or in the car park - most of the time it's a case of "third time lucky" when finding my car. It gets worse with age; in your twenties you can play cute and ditzy, in your thirties people just think you're a little bit crazy!

  9. Thank you to everyone for proving that it's not just me! I'm holding these comments as evidence for my friend who thinks it's a completely ridiculous thing to do.

Granted, no-one else seems to have spent as long looking for it as I have, but I'm just really thorough, yeah guys?

  10. Your photos are always a great addition to the blog. As far as parking goes - I'm awful at parallel parking! It's just not a skill one finds necessary to practice on the farm.
